Brian and Family Papers contain family correspondence pertaining largely to social life in 20th-century North Louisiana; newspaper clippings; printed volumes on various political, religious, and educational subjects; photographs; land deeds; blueprints; scattered issues of several Louisiana newspapers; and a microfilm copy of Henry Clay Dethloff's "Populism and Reform in Louisiana" (Ph.D. diss., University of Missouri, 1964).

Hardy L. Brian (1865-1949) was born near Pollock, La., and married Eugenia Ella Dickerson on October 7, 1886. He was Louisiana state representative for Winn Parish between 1892 and 1896, belonging to the Populist Party. Brian later owned and edited weekly newspapers in Winnfield and Natchitoches Parish. Henry Clay Dethloff (b. Aug. 10, 1934) received his B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 1956, his M.A. from Northwestern State College in 1960, and his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri in 1964.
